CISWO – The Coal Mining Charity is proud to support a major investment in the tennis court facilities at Mexborough Miners’ Welfare, helping to ensure this valued community asset can be enjoyed all year round by local residents and Mexborough Tennis Club.
Working in partnership with local trustees and funders, CISWO – The Coal Mining Charity has helped secure funding for a comprehensive programme of improvements. These include full resurfacing and repainting of the courts, replacement of ageing fencing with new durable perimeter fencing, and the installation of modern floodlighting to extend play into the evenings and winter months.
The £128,928 project has been made possible through a combination of grants and community support, including £50,000 from CISWO – The Coal Mining Charity, £10,000 from Sport England, and £67,632 from the FCC Communities Foundation Community Fund, alongside £1,296 raised through community fundraising.
These improvements will enhance safety, accessibility and long-term sustainability, creating better facilities for players of all ages and abilities while supporting wider community wellbeing. The new floodlighting will also enable longer playing hours, helping to grow participation, coaching opportunities and club development.
Nicola Didlock, Chief Executive of CISWO, said:
This project is a strong example of the impact that can be achieved when we work in partnership with local trustees and charitable funders. The facilities at Mexborough Miners Welfare are a valued community asset, and these upgrades will help protect and enhance the tennis court for future generations.
Shaun Bennett from Mexborough Miners’ Welfare said:
The funding is a fantastic boost for Mexborough Miners Welfare, the tennis club and the wider community. These improvements will create first-class facilities, encourage more people to get involved in tennis and ensure the courts can be enjoyed all year round.
A representative from FCC Communities Foundation added:
We’re delighted to support a project that will have such a positive impact on local people. High-quality sports facilities are vital for community wellbeing, and this investment will help ensure residents can enjoy tennis all year round.
