£10,000 support for new floodlights at Penrhiwceiber Recreation Ground

CISWO – The Coal Mining Charity – has awarded a £5,000 grant to Penrhiwceiber Recreation Ground and secured £5,000 from the Bernard Sunley Foundation to support the installation of new floodlights, helping to improve access to sports and community activities throughout the year.

The investment will enable year-round use of the facility, providing a safe and welcoming environment for hundreds of local football players, schools and community groups. By improving visibility and safety, the new floodlights will open up evening activity and training opportunities, reducing barriers to participation and increasing use of the ground.

The development will also strengthen Penrhiwceiber Recreation Ground’s role as a vital community hub, supporting sport, health, wellbeing and social connection for local people.

Danielle Lineham, Trustee at Penrhiwceiber Recreation Ground, said:

With CISWO’s assistance and grant support we were able to get this much needed project over the line. We would like to thank CISWO for their support.

These floodlights will make a huge difference to how the ground can be used, particularly during the darker months, and will help ensure the facility continues to benefit the whole community.

CISWO Chief Executive Nicola Didlock added:

This investment highlights the positive impact that can be achieved when we work in partnership with local trustees to support facilities that sit at the heart of their communities.

Penrhiwceiber Recreation Ground is a valued local asset, and these new floodlights will help extend access, improve safety, and ensure more people can take part in sport and community activity throughout the year.

The project will help ensure the recreation ground remains a safe, inclusive and accessible space, supporting increased participation in sport and community activity for years to come.

CISWO’s grants support service works with miners’ welfare charities and community organisations across the country to secure funding for essential improvements and long-term sustainability.
