CISWO – The Coal Mining Charity – has announced an expansion to its Community Welfare Service, a major step forward in supporting miners’ welfare charities across the UK. The strengthened offer provides more accessible, personalised and proactive support to charities that have long been central to mining communities.
Miners’ welfares remain vital hubs where people come together, find support, and share a strong sense of community pride. However, running a charity in today’s landscape can be challenging. That’s why CISWO’s Community Welfare Service has been enhanced and improved to respond directly to these pressures, helping charities thrive now and into the future.
The service brings all key areas of support into one place – ranging from financial management, funding advice and governance to land issues, policies, procedures and trustee development. Each element is tailored specifically to the unique needs of individual miners’ welfare charities.
Nicola Didlock, Chief Executive of CISWO, said:
We know how deeply miners’ welfare charities matter to the communities they serve and how much they contribute to local wellbeing, pride and togetherness. Our enhanced Community Welfare Service is designed to meet the modern challenges these charities face, giving trustees the tools, confidence and support they need to thrive.
this is an important service that helps to safeguard the future of these vital community assets, ensuring they continue to make a lasting difference for generations to come.
Charities can also receive direct access to specialist advice, hands-on practical support and bespoke guidance from CISWO’s Development Managers. These specialists work closely with individual organisations to understand their goals, challenges, and long-term ambitions.
The service aims to help protect, sustain and strengthen important community spaces – from sports facilities and social clubs to green spaces and recreational venues that bring people together.
