The herbal histories of Wakefield

At CISWO, we are dedicated to combating social isolation by offering a wide range of unique and engaging activities at our Thornycroft Centre.

These activities not only bring joy to our members but also provide meaningful opportunities for connection and community involvement. One such example is our recent participation in ‘The Herbal Histories of Wakefield,’ a community collection of historic herbal remedies and well-being practices, published by the National Trust.

Our members proudly shared their family recipes and remedies, passed down through generations, to be featured in this wonderful publication. They were also honored to attend the booklet launch at Nostell Priory, celebrating their contributions alongside other community members.

Preserving memories and traditions from mining communities is important for future generations, and we were proud to play a part in this important initiative.

This collaboration not only highlighted the valuable traditions within the community but also strengthened the sense of pride and connection among our members.

We look forward to continuing to create and support more opportunities like this that celebrate our shared heritage and bring our community closer together.
