Social inclusion: John’s story

CISWO is dedicated to supporting those facing social isolation, offering resources and opportunities through services like the Thornycroft Day Centre in Pontefract. John’s life changed dramatically after the loss of his wife, leaving him battling loneliness and disconnection. The emotional weight was significant, and finding a way to regain his sense of purpose seemed daunting.

John turned to CISWO and discovered the Thornycroft Centre, where he found not just activities, but a community. Through workshops, social events, and day trips facilitated by the centre, John began to reconnect with life outside his home. Activities like visiting local shops and garden centres became accessible through the centre’s transportation service, allowing John to engage in outings that would have been impossible on his own.

Since joining the Thornycroft Centre last year, I have had the opportunity to witness and be on the receiving end of exceptional care and support. The staff go above and beyond to create a warm, welcoming environment where individuals feel valued, respected, and cared for. Their genuine concern fosters a sense of belonging and community.

For John, the centre wasn’t just a place to spend time; it became a source of hope and renewed friendships that helped him manage his grief and combat isolation. At CISWO, stories like John’s inspire our commitment to fostering social inclusion and connection for those who need it most.
