Anthony's story

Posted: 16-09-24

At CISWO, we are committed to enhancing the quality of life for former mineworkers and their families through our free bespoke services. One key aspect of this support is helping clients access essential mobility equipment, such as walking aids and wheelchairs, to maintain their independence.

A recent example is Anthony, a former mineworker who suffers from severe osteoarthritis in his knees, making mobility increasingly difficult. Previously, Anthony relied on external support for trips outside his home, but a sudden change in his personal circumstances left him at risk of becoming housebound.

Thanks to a CISWO grant, Anthony was able to fund the purchase a new mobility scooter. This scooter has not only restored his independence but has also reduced his social isolation, significantly improving his overall quality of life.

Reflecting on the impact, Anthony shared:

"CISWO made a tremendous difference to my life. I can go into town any day, and my scooter is ready to go again in just two hours. Without it, I would be housebound."
