CISWO – The Coal Mining Charity – has helped secure over £15,000 in grant funding to support essential lighting upgrades at Staveley Miners’ Welfare, improving safety, accessibility and long‑term sustainability for the local community.
Working closely with the trustees at Staveley, CISWO’s Grants Team successfully accessed a £5,000 grant from the Four Winds Community Fund and a further £10,621 from the Staveley Town Council Community Infrastructure Levy fund. Together, the grants have secured a total of £15,621 towards the installation of new LED lighting, replacing outdated fixtures and significantly improving visibility throughout the building.
The upgrade is an important step in modernising the welfare. As well as improving safety for users, the new LED system will reduce energy consumption, lower carbon emissions and cut electricity costs. These savings will allow the trustees to redirect more of their limited resources towards key charitable activities, including the welfare’s much‑loved annual OAP Christmas party.
