Social inclusion
The Thornycroft Centre
At CISWO, we’re committed to reducing social isolation, particularly for those in former coal mining communities. The Thornycroft Centre in Pontefract offers a welcoming and supportive environment to socialise, make connections, and take part in a wide range of activities.
Activities and support
Our friendly team is on hand to provide guidance, refreshments, and a hot lunch, alongside a programme of activities, such as:
- Gentle exercise classes (e.g., Pilates)
- Games and quizzes
- Arts and crafts
- Themed weeks and events
- Day trips to local attractions
We welcome everyone, regardless of age or background, though priority is given to those living in former mining communities.
Getting to Thornycroft
The centre is easy to reach, with:
- Convenient public transport
- Free on-site parking
- Minibus service: subject to availability, we offer door-to-door transport for members in need.
Food at Thornycroft
At the Thornycroft Centre, we provide more than just activities and support – our offering includes a welcoming space where visitors can enjoy refreshments and a hot lunch as part of their day.
Whether you’re taking part in an exercise class, enjoying a quiz, or simply catching up with others, the chance to share a meal adds to the sense of community and belonging that Thornycroft is all about.
I didn’t think happiness was possible again, but Thornycroft brought laughter back into my life. The staff are wonderful, and now I have a reason to get out of bed in the morning.
