CISWO welcomes £250 donation from The Critical Industry Society to Thornycroft Centre Minibus Appeal

CISWO – The Coal Mining Charity – has welcomed a generous £250 donation from The Critical Industry Society towards its Thornycroft Centre Minibus Appeal.

The full donation will go directly to the appeal for a much-needed new accessible community minibus for CISWO’s Thornycroft social inclusion centre in Pontefract.

The vehicle will help members take part in more trips and social activities, maintain friendships and stay connected with the wider community.

The Critical Industry Society represents more than 400 organisations from industry, government and education. The organisation has evolved to reflect today’s critical industries and brings together members involved in the energy transition, logistics and mineral supply chains. The profile of members ranges from CEOs and industry leaders to apprentices and students.

A representative of The Critical Industry Society said:

We are pleased to support CISWO’s Thornycroft Centre Minibus Appeal. This donation will go directly towards a practical project that will strengthen inclusion, independence and community connections in former mining areas, and we hope it will encourage others to support the campaign too.

CISWO Chief Executive Nicola Didlock said:

We are extremely grateful to The Critical Industry Society for this generous donation to our Thornycroft Centre Minibus Appeal. Every contribution brings us closer to securing an accessible vehicle that will open more opportunities for our members to enjoy activities, maintain friendships and stay connected to the support and community around them.

Thornycroft provides opportunities for members to take part in activities, build friendships and connect with the wider community. The Minibus Appeal is also being supported by The Big CISWalk, CISWO’s fundraising challenge running from September to November 2026.

Workplace teams and other supporters can walk a full CISWO minibus route, combine routes or create their own walking challenge while fundraising together. Teams can register by emailing fundraising@ciswo.org.uk.
