This Free Wills Month, CISWO is encouraging former coal miners and their families to think about protecting their future by making a will.
Delivered in partnership with Octopus Legacy, CISWO’s free will writing service is available throughout the year and helps former miners’ and their families ensure their wishes are respected and their loved ones are supported after they are gone.
The service forms part of CISWO’s wider commitment to providing practical guidance and assistance with important end-of-life planning.
Former mineworker, Michael, was initially referred to CISWO for support with a Blue Badge application. During a visit from CISWO’s Personal Welfare Team, it quickly became clear that he had wider needs and did not have a will in place.
Working with delivery partner Octopus Legacy, CISWO arranged a visit to help Michael create a will, establish a house in trust and put a Lasting Power of Attorney in place. The support provided him and his family with clarity, security and peace of mind.
So impressed by the support he received, Michael has since recommended CISWO to his family.
Reflecting on his experience, he said: “The service has been outstanding from start to finish, we would not have been able to manage this without CISWO.”
CISWO’s free will writing service covers the preparation of a basic will and can be accessed in a way that suits individual circumstances. Wills can be completed online, over the phone or video call or through a home visit.
Nicola Didlock, Chief Executive of CISWO, said:
Making a will protects those we love and ensures our wishes are respected, but worries about time, cost or complexity can make it easy to delay. Through Octopus Legacy, we offer former miners and their families free, professional support to plan with confidence.
“Michael’s story shows the difference this can make, giving him and his family greater security and peace of mind. Our service is available all year, so anyone who needs to make or update a will can get in touch when they are ready.
