Supporting charities

At CISWO, we are committed to empowering over 200 independent mining charities, helping them continue to deliver essential recreational and social facilities that lie at the heart of local communities. Through our comprehensive community welfare support service, we enable these charities to make a difference ensuring they are retained for future generations to come.

Local miners’ welfare charities are often the backbone of sports and community venues that are integral to the fabric of former mining towns and villages. From football pitches and bowling greens to social activities and recreational spaces, these charities play a crucial role in bringing people together.

Our community welfare service

We provide tailored, hands-on support for miners’ welfare charities, stakeholders, and partners. Whether you’re managing a local project or collaborating with us, our services include funding guidance, and long-term planning—helping your charity stay sustainable and continue making a positive impact.

If you need support dealing with challenges, growing your charity, or changing direction, contact our team.

Support & guidance

Our community welfare team led by our experienced regional development managers provide personalised guidance, offering short- or long-term support on a wide range of issues that may be impacting your charity. We work closely with you on critical areas where we help trustees to:

  • Explore ways to sustain and grow the charity
  • Develop plans for the business
  • Budget and manage the financial accounts
  • Increase income and apply for funding
  • Fulfil legal and regulatory obligations.

We are very grateful for the support provided by CISWO and the funding that made the development of a new 3G pitch possible. This will benefit so many people of all ages in the area.
