Bedlinog Miners’ Welfare Association was recently awarded a grant by CISWO to restore their pavilion building.
The building had fallen into a state of disrepair after the last occupants vacated in 2020, leaving a void in the community.
Ryan James, a Trustee of Bedlinog Miners’ Welfare Association told us,
“We want to use this asset to unite our community, provide volunteer opportunities to upskill our community, support community projects and combat loneliness, as well as positively impact the lives of younger people.
We want to promote healthy living, encourage creativity and culture and be able to share valuable information.”
CISWO worked together with the trustees of the welfare to provide guidance and financial support and after extensive planning, work began to restore the building in May of 2023.
The building saw a complete internal renovation, including a new kitchen, bathroom, flooring and much more. External work was also carried out, with new perimeter fencing erected.
The team at Bedlinog Miners’ Welfare Association had this to say of the completed work;
“We are extremely grateful to CISWO for the support offered to us in the form of grant funding. This has enabled us to bring an unused building back into community use.
Our newly renovated building provides a community asset and recreational facility, and we have lots of interest from other community groups who want to utilise the building to offer social and educational activities to our residents.”
