Support for Markham Miner’s Welfare
Posted: 09-02-24
CISWO recently embarked on a project aiming to transform the facilities and services provided by Markham Miner’s Welfare. The project was mainly aimed at enhancing governance, implementing best practices, and securing sustainable funding avenues. Over a period of 18 months, CISWO provided comprehensive support, including trustee recruitment to diversify skill sets and expand outreach, as well as guidance on income generation strategies.
The pivotal moment of this partnership came with CISWO's generous match funding, in collaboration with the National Lottery, which significantly contributed to the renovation of Markham Miners Welfare Scheme's old snooker room.
This revitalised space now offers a safe environment for members of the local community to come together, socialise and engage in activities that support unity.
Emma Williams, Chairperson of Markham Miners Welfare Scheme, expressed her gratitude for CISWO's support, acknowledging its role in transforming a neglected room into a vibrant community hub.
“Thanks to your support, and Ryan's (CISWO's Service Development Manager for Wales) advocacy we've been able to transform a once neglected space into a hub of possibility and opportunity.
From educational workshops to recreational gatherings, the possibilities are endless, and it's all thanks to your unwavering commitment to our cause.
Ryan's dedication and efforts in helping us gain funding on both fronts have been instrumental in our success. His support has not only amplified our reach but has also strengthened our resolve to make a lasting impact in the community.
Your partnership has not only made a tangible difference in the lives of those directly involved but has also fostered a sense of hope and optimism within our community.
Thank you for your remarkable support. We are truly honoured to have CISWO and the National Lottery standing beside us as we work towards building a brighter future for all."
This success story highlights CISWO's commitment to supporting local charities and making a meaningful impact in ex-coalmining communities nationwide.
