Celebrating Small Charities

Posted: 28-06-24

Last week, to honour Small Charity Week, we visited Treeton Memorial Community Centre and Playing Fields, a vibrant community hub. This site is home to Treeton Cricket Club and Treeton Terriers Football Club, drawing over 35,000 visitors annually.

Treeton Memorial Community Centre and Playing Fields, one of over 230 small charities supported by CISWO, is a shining example of dedication and community spirit. Over the past decade, the charity has secured over £300,000 in grant funding, vital for maintaining and enhancing this former coal mining community's recreational facilities.

During our visit, we met with Keith, the Chair of Trustees, and Richard, the Financial Director. They shared the charity’s impressive journey and highlighted the critical need for ongoing funding, particularly for upcoming projects like refurbishing the changing rooms and pavilion roof.

Keith told us, “It's great to see so many local people and visitors enjoying the ground, whether playing, watching, or simply having a drink in the Clubhouse.” He also expressed his gratitude for the volunteers who make the club what it is, “We are fortunate to have so many volunteers involved in the running of football and cricket and in the maintenance of the playing fields and other facilities."

CISWO is dedicated to supporting small charities like Treeton across England, Scotland, and Wales. We offer advice on governance, business planning, and fundraising through our grants team.

Becky Rose, CISWO Director of Business Development, who went to visit Treeton, said, “Small Charity Week is a time to highlight the extraordinary impact of these organisations. The work being done at Treeton Memorial Community Centre and Playfields is a testament to the power of community and the difference that dedicated individuals can make."

We at CISWO are committed to championing these local heroes, ensuring they have the resources to thrive and make a lasting impact.
